MBA CHANGED ISHANT DHAVLE LIFE FROM NEVER AGAIN TO NORMAL LIFE.
From disability to ability…. Story of a child’s development in Early Intervention Clinic
Ishant was born on 16th January 2009, to Soni, in Nanded in a government hospital; he was healthy and normal when he was born. After about 3 months stay in her native village in Nanded Soni shifted to her inlaws house in Mumbai, and took good care of her son; but as months passed Soni was worried as she was realizing that some thing was wrong with her son; he was not moving like a normal child.
She consulted her family doctor in her locality, who after seeing Ishant refered him to Paramount. Doctors there asked for Ishant’s delivery report where it was mentioned that he did not cry when he was born; doctors at Nanded should have made him cry, which had affected him, so they started doing all his tests and therapy sessions.
They referred him to Nair Hospital, since their financial condition was bad. There, the treatment started but he was not showing much improvement and travelling such a long distance was difficult; and after a few months, doctors at Nair hospital told his mother and mother-in-law, that he will never walk or be normal like other children; he will remain bedridden throughout his life His mother, Soni got more tensed hearing all this and stopped eating for almost 8 days. Without having proper food, her health was also detoriating. But thanks to her mother-in- law, who took good care of her and Ishant and gave her courage, she became better.
In the meanwhile, the mother-in-law found out about a neighboring child Nitesh Sangde, who is also a special child, going to MBA Foundation, where his condition was steadily improving. So they brought Ishant to MBA Foundation.
Ishant came to us when he was just about 11/2 years old; on assessment, it was found that there was not much of development for his age; his vision was very poor, neck holding was moderate, eye hand co-ordination was not proper and gross and fine moter development was not there; he was not even able to turn on his own.
A detailed program was made for him by the team of occupational therapist, Dr.Bhagwan Bandekar, Speech therapist, Dr. Dnyanada Potdar and Special Educators Shamal Vartak and Shobha Pataniak (our Volunteer who too is a special educator).
Counselling of parents and dedicated work on him for almost 2 1/2years; his mother was very sincere in following with the program at home; worked on him day and night, as taught by the professionals.
Ishant used to get scared of climbing up and down the slope, so she used 5 to 6 pillows to do it at home; and with the help of foot support given by MBA she use to make him walk.
The development was progressive and when he was about 4 years he was referred to a normal kinder garden school, and then, there was no stoppage of his physical & mental growth.
Now Ishant can run, dance and play & has improved vision too. He is studying in St. Anthony School, a regular school, at Kherani Road, Sakinaka. Ishant cannot write cursive writing, but the teachers at the school are very supportive and helpful to him; they call the mother and she helps him to work at his own pace.
This is an exemplary case where each one concerned can be very proud!!
Kudos to the MBA Foundation teachers and the mother, who brought life into him.
I who have witnessed this child all these years want to salute all the stakeholders, Sujata Madam, Meenakshi Madam, Taruna Madam, Dr. Bhagwan, Shamal Madam, Shoba Pataniak Madam , and all the staff of MBA Foundation, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, HIS MOTHER……
A message from Ishant Dhavle’s mother…
“I came here with some hope but achieved much more than that, which I cannot describe. I have no words to describe what MBA Foundation has done for me, my child and my family… I am always indebted and will spread the word for other children too.”
Today Soni Dhavle takes care of Ishant but has joined S M Shetty school to take care of the special children there – her small way of giving back to society!!
