“Madam, don’t worry, HUM LOG HAIN NAA, SAB SAMBHALENGE”, words coming from a girl who would brood over what others had to say about her disability, only some years ago.
Chanda is a life care beneficiary for the last 10 years; she had lost both her legs below the knees, in a train accident. World came to standstill for her lying in the hospital; but got a friend in Sharda who too was a patient there, and both decided to fight life together, worked in the hospital canteen, living with a nurse who worked there.
After coming to MBA Foundation, she got an opportunity to get in trained in different areas. She completed her class 10 and 12 exams after enrolling for NIOS. She also attended our Executive Development Training Program, and learnt English language, communication skills, computer operations and other soft skills. In the meanwhile, she got prosthesis for her legs and stands tall like others. As she is very alert mentally, she can manage any kind of office work.
In the last 4 years, Chanda is managing the Friends of Gods scheme independently; updating the database with new members & renewals; calling the members before sending the materials for their orders; organising area wise delivery to all Friends of Gods, etc. She also participates in exhibitions and knows all the customers personally.
There has been a very good improvement in her oral and written communication skills. She with her friends Sharda & Manisha take care of other life care members in addition to managing care givers and other ancillary staff. Earning her own livelihood, she stands tall among people who find excuses to shirk work or push their work to others, or blame other for their mistakes!
She is a live example of how one can succeed, if given the right direction and opportunities.
